Saint James School of Medicine is recognized by the Medical Council of Canada
Saint James School of Medicine offers Canadian medical students an affordable alternative to the high fees and stiff competition of traditional Canadian medical schools.
We have a growing reputation for offering a good medical education at an affordable price.
We offer an MD Program with US Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) prep and clinicals carried out at affiliated hospitals and clinical facilities in the US. By completing our MD Program our students are eligible to become a doctor in Canada or the United States.
Saint James School of Medicine welcomes Canadian Students
Our students come predominantly from Canada and the USA. They study the Basic Sciences at one of our two Caribbean island schools in Anguilla and Bonaire, before moving to the US to start their study of the Clinical Sciences with our Advanced Introduction to Clinical Medicine. This is a 16 week course offered at one of our affiliated hospitals in Chicago and consists of eight weeks of intensive preparation and review for USMLE Step 1, followed by eight weeks of introductory concepts in clinical medicine, including rotations through the various departments.
Following this solid grounding in clinical medicine our students commence their Clinical rotation program, which is 96 weeks in length, with 48 weeks of Core rotations and 48 weeks of Elective rotations. Core rotations are completed at ACGME approved hospitals around the U.S.
Saint James School of Medicine is recognized by the Medical Council of Canada
The Medical Council of Canada has granted permission to students of Saint James School of Medicine to sit for all qualifying examinations required to obtain a license to practice medicine in Canada. This means that our students are eligible to sit the MCCEE (Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination) and Part 1 & Part II of the MCCQE (Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination) to gain their LMCC (Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada)
Residency matches in the United States or in Canada
We can assist Canadian students with gaining a residency match in the United States or in Canada. The choice is yours and both options are open to you through Saint James. We can submit all the paperwork to the Canadian centralized residency matching program CaRMS on your behalf, and as Canadian residency matches fall a little later in the year than US matches, the two options are not mutually exclusive.
Financial assistance available for Canadian students
Student credit lines are available for qualified students who are citizens and residents of Canada. Professional student credit lines offer up to CAN $150,000 and have easy application processes, deferred payments on the principal while in-school and attractive repayment options.
You can obtain more information on financial assistance available for Canadian students by visiting our Financial Assistance page on our website or emailing our admissions team at info@mail.sjsm.org.
