Saint James School of Medicine will be attending the Study and Go Abroad fair in Toronto on Sunday March 3, 2013. We will also be running a series of open days surrounding the show, where potential medical students can come along and meet with representatives from the School, including alumni and faculty, and find out more about what Saint James School of Medicine can offer you. Details of the Toronto open days are still to be confirmed, so we’ll post more information about this here, as soon as we have confirmed the venue and dates. Saint James School of Medicine welcomes Canadian students Almost 40% of our students come from Canada.  Our medical students study the Basic Sciences at one of our two Caribbean island schools in Anguilla and Bonaire, before moving to the US to embark on the Clinical Sciences with our Advanced Introduction to Clinical Medicine.  This is a 16 week course offered at one of our affiliated hospitals in Chicago and consists of eight weeks of intensive preparation and review for the US Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1, followed by eight weeks of introductory concepts in clinical medicine, including rotations through the various departments. Following this grounding in clinical medicine our students commence their Clinical rotation program, which is 96 weeks in length, with 48 weeks of Core rotations and 48 weeks of Elective rotations. Core rotations are completed at ACGME approved hospitals around the U.S. Saint James School of Medicine offers Canadian medical students an affordable alternative to the high fees and stiff competition of traditional Canadian medical schools. We have a strong reputation for offering a good medical education at an affordable price. Our graduates are eligible to become doctors in Canada or the USA. Recognized by the Medical Council of Canada The Medical Council of Canada has granted permission to students of Saint James School of Medicine to sit for all qualifying examinations required to obtain a license to practice medicine in Canada. This means that our students are eligible to sit the MCCEE (Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination) and Part 1 & Part II of the MCCQE (Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination) to gain their LMCC (Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada) Eligible to Apply for Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates Certification Saint James School of Medicine is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools with an ECFMG® Sponsor Note which has granted permission for our students to take the USMLE exam and apply for ECFMG certification (required for entry into a residency program in the US). The School is listed in the International Medical Education Directory produced by FAIMER. Residency matches in the United States or in Canada We can assist Canadian students with gaining a residency match in the United States or in Canada. The choice is yours and both options are open to you through Saint James. We can submit all the paperwork to  the Canadian centralized residency matching program CaRMS  on your behalf, and as Canadian residency matches fall a little later in the year than US matches, the two options are not mutually exclusive. Financial assistance available for Canadian students Student credit lines are available for qualified students who are citizens and residents of Canada. Professional student credit lines offer up to CAN $150,000 and have easy application processes, deferred payments on the principal while in-school and attractive repayment options. You can obtain more information on financial assistance available for Canadian students by visiting our Financial Assistance page on our website or emailing our admissions team at info@mail.sjsm.org
