What was your first impression of St. Vincent?
St, Vincent was hotter than I was used to, but cooler than what I’ve experienced in Jamaica. People were courteous and kind, and spoke very loudly! I would say I blended in pretty well (I’m a loud talker, myself).
How do you like the island?
It’s beautiful, small and everyone seems to know each other. The people here are very friendly to newcomers. Because the island is so small, everything is nearby (including the airport). It’s almost impossible to be lost for more than 5 minutes.
What advice would you give an incoming student who may be having anxiety about moving?
Go for it! Never underestimate your capabilities, and remember that there’s always Skype to reduce your risk of homesickness.
What has been your favorite _____ so far? (Memory, event, class, restaurant, etc.)
Carnival. It was a great celebration with people dancing in costumes throughout the streets of Kingstown. People from all over the world travel to Saint Vincent for this carnival. Mardi Gras was my favorite part of Carnival (since it was the last event, it was the biggest party of them all!).
What is something you wish you knew before you started classes?
That shoe covers and scrubs were required. Semi-unprepared!
What do you think you’ll miss the most about the island once you leave?
The beauty of seeing the waters every morning on my way to school and the variety of animals that they have here.
Describe your typical day.
I wake up to the sounds of roosters, get all ready for school, and head to the school bus stop. When we arrive at school, we usually have about half an hour before class starts, which I tend to use as study time. Our classes vary day to day, but on Mondays we will have Anatomy from 8 am to 10 am, Histology from 10 am to 12 pm, lunch break from 12 pm to 1 pm, Embryology from 1 pm to 3 pm, and variable activities between 3 pm and 5 pm.
