A microbiologist studies organisms that can range from common known diseases to complicated mysterious “superbugs.” Microbiologists work with numerous scientists to investigate infectious disease and its myriad of causes.
There are several paths of microbiology that medical students can explore to determine which specialty to focus on. Among them are some of the most popular: epidemiology, mycology and bacteriology. Students can seek advice to determine which area of microbiology is of most interest to them, and also select their career paths allowing them various employment options. Clinical labs, hospitals, environmental agencies, and medical schools are some of the more commonly selected choices in this regard.
