Entertainer and TV Personality Nick Cannon announced three years ago that he is living with lupus. In the spotlight, Cannon has made several appearances talking about his disorder, and he continues to offer advice to those diagnosed with this disease.
Lupus is categorized as a disorder of the immune system known as autoimmune diseases and negatively affects one's joints, skin, kidneys, heart, lungs, blood vessels and brain. Currently, no known cure for lupus exists.
Cannon believes it is important for those diagnosed to take their lives one day at a time. Of course, some days are harder than others, but he explains that perseverance and strong communication between one's doctors are the best ways of coping with this illness.
"I have lupus, but lupus doesn't have me," he proclaims while giving hope to those struggling to come to terms with this condition.
Cannon, the Grand Marshal for the Lupus Foundation of America's Washington DC Walk to End Lupus Now, sat down for a brief interview to discuss how he is living with lupus and how we can raise awareness and fight disease. The more we educate and seek understanding of this disorder, the more we will be able to create funding for research towards a cure.
