A functional neurosurgeon is a doctor who tries to improve a neurological function taking part in different surgical strategies. For neurosurgeons, their dream is to fully repair the brain. According to neurosurgeon Jocelyne Bloch, that dream is quickly being approached. Bloch is helping to unlock the potential self-healing capacities that the brain has. She is an expert in deep brain stimulation and neuromodulation for movement disorders caused by the brain. The work that Bloch focuses on helps cortical cells, called double cortin.
Like Bloch, many other neurosurgeons are pioneering the development of adult brain cell transplantation for patients who have gone through things such as a stroke. These doctors are working to create cell transplation using the patients very own brain cells.
