Read All News

In this Day in the Life series installment, we’re going to dive into what it’s like to practice as a pulmonologist. A pulmonology physician specializes in diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases and other issues. The lungs’ vital function is to provide oxygen to the capillary vessels in order to oxygenate the blood (source: http://www.healthline.com/human-body-maps/lung).

Respiratory illness is the main reason people see pulmonologists. Some of the illnesses that fall under the care of a pulmonologist include: lung cancer, pneumonia, asthma, cystic fibrosis, breathing difficulty, chronic cough, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), sleep apnea and tuberculosis.

Meet Dr. Tom Schaumberg as he shares his journey both as a medical student and practicing Pulmonologist & Critical Care Specialist at the Oregon Clinic.
