What is the MCAT?
The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is a computer-based standardized examination for prospective medical students in the United States, Canada, as well as internationally such as the Caribbean Islands. It is designed to assess problem solving, critical thinking, written analysis and knowledge of scientific concepts and principles.

Why SJSM does not require MCAT?
At Saint James School of Medicine (SJSM), we believe that medical school admissions should be a holistic process. In fact, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) provides recommendations on how MCAT scores should be used in admissions; most notably recommending that MCAT scores should not outweigh an applicant’s other qualities. For this reason SJSM continues to be one of the Caribbean medical schools that doesn’t require and MCAT for admission into it’s program.
Other things we consider when accepting a student into our program:
- Prior Education GPA;
- Degrees Completed;
- Coursework taken;
- Letters of recommendation;
- Work Experience;
- Volunteer experience.
While an MCAT score is a welcome addition to the overall application, it is not a requirement.

Financial Aid
Financing your education should not be stressful. Students of SJSM are eligible to apply for different financial aid options:

Scholarships
SJSM offers some of the best scholarships in the industry. We are one of the only private institutions to offer FULL scholarship to students. Our students are eligible to apply for:
- Dr. Jay K. Pandit Scholarship- Full scholarship covering entire program tuition
- Dr. Bruce Davidson Scholarship- Covering 50% of the tuition
- Provost’s Scholarship- Eligible students receive up to $1500 each semester
