Adalimumab Induced Lupus Erythematosus

Adriana Cooke, Shiny Aroan Jayakumar, Negin Nasiri
Mentors: Dr. S. Rangrej and Dr. N. Sunitha

It is well known that many medications can cause systemic lupus erythematosus. In a group of tumor necrosis factors, those are etanercept and infliximab, but adalimumab was considered safe. Adalimumab is a biologic commonly used in several immune-mediated conditions to reduce inflammation and tissue destruction.

SJSM students were not so sure that it is safe. The result of their search for the truth was a discussion of one fascinating and often overlooked side effect of Adalimumab.

If you think that their presentation is just another boring list of medical miracles, you are wrong! Because SJSM students are presenting adalimumab medical mystery with a twist involving a medication that, in many cases is a lifesaver.
