More Than A Medical School A Family Legacy
Oldest family-owned medical school in North America.
At Saint James School of Medicine, we believe the journey to becoming a doctor is more than lectures and exams – it’s a personal transformation. As a proudly family-owned institution, our values run deep: integrity, compassion, and a commitment to every student’s success.
Being family-owned means we’re free to focus on what truly matters – people. We take the time to know our students, understand their goals, and guide them with personalized support every step of the way. This is not a place where you’re just another number. Here, you are part of a close-knit community that celebrates your milestones, stands by you in challenges, and shares your vision for a life in service to others.

The Visionary Founder Behind Sjsm - Dr. Kallol Guha
Dr. Kallol Guha, Ph.D., D.Sc., founded Saint James School of Medicine (SJSM) in 1999. The mission of Saint James School of Medicine is to help motivated students realize their dream of a medical career irrespective of their ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds. We use innovative teaching methods to shape the minds and spirits of our students and to help transform them into compassionate healers of the human body and mind. Our students are trained to pursue their profession with confidence, balanced with humility and compassion.
With academic degrees from the University of Copenhagen and the University of Kuopio, Finland, Dr. Guha began his medical education career in the Caribbean in 1981. With over 25 years of experience in medical schools, he paved the way for a new kind of medical education that is both accessible and affordable.
Under his leadership, Saint James has grown into a respected international institution, currently educating nearly 1,000 students and boasting over 800 graduates practicing medicine across North America.
In 2024, Dr. Guha spearheaded the opening of the school’s state-of-the-art campus in St. Vincent, featuring modern classrooms, laboratories, and interactive learning spaces — a milestone that reflects his commitment to excellence and innovation.
Beyond academics, Dr. Guha emphasizes community service and social responsibility, leading initiatives such as free health screenings and volunteering programs that connect students with local communities.
In recognition of his dedication, Dr. Guha was named one of the “Top 100 Visionaries in Education” in 2021 by the Global Forum for Education and Learning.
At Saint James School of Medicine, his legacy continues to inspire the next generation of compassionate and skilled medical professionals.

United In Diversity, Driven By Care
At SJSM, we understand and encourage diversity. It’s part of what makes us special. We offer opportunities to Caribbean medical school students from the U.S. and Canada who come from many cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We also encourage older students to apply; age can make it more difficult to gain admittance to American and Canadian schools.
Our professors also come from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds, allowing students to immerse themselves in the same multicultural professional relationships they will encounter in the future.
Family Owned, Student-centered
Saint James School of Medicine thrives on the values of a family-run institution: personalized attention, strong community bonds, and unwavering support. Our ownership structure lets us focus on what matters most — your success and growth as a future medical professional.
Here, you’re not just a student; you’re part of a family dedicated to guiding you every step of the way.
